All meetings and activities will be held at Armstrong Atlantic State University.  Founded in 1935, AASU’s 250 acre campus is just a short drive from Historic Downtown Savannah. Celebrating its sixty-fifth anniversary in 2000, the Armstrong Atlantic community now includes 5,700 students and 250 faculty members. Housing for the conference will be available at local hotels just minutes from the campus.

DIRECTIONS:  Armstrong Atlantic State University is approximately 25 minutes from Savannah International Airport (SAV) and 2 hours from the Jacksonville Airport (JAX-Florida).  If driving from SAV, exit the airport and take I-95 South to exit 94 (204 – Abercorn Street).  Turn left at the stop sign and head East on 204 (Abercorn).  Armstrong’s campus is approximately 10 miles from the I-95/204 intersection.  The campus will be on your right hand side.  If traveling from the Jacksonville Airport, exit the airport and take I-95 North to exit 94 (204).  Allow approximately 2 hours by car.  Turn right at the stop sign and proceed down 204 East. DATES:  Wednesday, August 8 is the opening day.  Standing committee meetings will be held at various times between 1:00 and 5:00 PM.  The Ice Breaker will be held Wednesday evening, August 8th with hors d’oeuvres and drinks.  Scientific meetings will begin at 8:00 AM on Thursday, August 9 and end at 5:00pm Saturday, August 11.  Poster sessions will be held between 7:00 and 9:00 PM on Thursday and Friday.  The banquet will be held at the Savannah Station on Saturday, August 11, beginning at 7:00 PM.  Transportation will be provided to and from the campus for the banquet.
FACILITIES:  The University will provide slide projectors, laser pointers, overhead projectors, and Powerpoint.
MEALS:  Registration fee includes continental breakfast each morning before the sessions and light snacks during the afternoon (Thursday through Saturday). Lunch is NOT be provided.  Hors d’oeuvres will be served during the opening reception and poster sessions.  A traditional southern low country boil and barbecue will be served at the banquet.
WEATHER AND DRESS:  Late summer in Savannah is usually hot and humid.  Daytime temperatures normally exceed 90? F and nighttime temperatures tend to range in the 70’s.  So, dress lightly and drink plenty of water.  Dress for the banquet is casual.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:  Considered as the Hostess City of the South, Savannah is rich in old-fashioned Southern hospitality, historic architecture and natural beauty.  For your visit to the Low Country, consider taking one of the many guided tours through the Historic District. If you enjoy the beach atmosphere, consider visiting Tybee Island.  Approximately 45 minutes by car from AASU’s campus, Tybee Island has beautiful beaches, friendly people, and comfortable local hangouts.  Other tourist attractions includes visiting South Carolina, especially Beaufort and Hilton Head. Beaufort is about 55 minutes from Savannah by car; it offers and exquisite historic district and waterfront shopping.  Hilton Head is approximately 35 miles from Savannah and provides 23 championship golf courses, so bring the clubs!

Transportation: The University will provide a shuttle service to and from the hotels (Days Inn, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, TownePlace Suites by Marriott) for the paper and poster sessions.  The Desoto Hilton will not be included in this service.  Bus service will be provided for the banquet, buses will depart from AASU to Savannah Station at 6:00 pm and will return to AASU from Savannah Station beginning at 10:00 pm.  The last shuttle will depart at 12 midnight.

Savannah International Airport is approximately 25 minutes from the hotels.  Jacksonville airport is approximately two hours from the hotels.
Coastal Transportation will offer shuttle service from the Savannah airport to your hotel for $25.00 round trip.  Coastal Transportation is located on the lower level of the airport next to Thrifty car rental.  Make your return reservations at the time of arrival.  You must present the ASP coupon when purchasing ticket.  Coupons may be obtained from the ASP web site at www.asp.org/asp2001/coupon.htm or by contacting the Program Chair.
Air Travel:  Delta Air Lines is the “Official Airline” for the conference.  Delta will offer discount airfares to Savannah International Airport and Jacksonville Airport (Florida).  To receive the maximum discount, please purchase your airline tickets 60 days in advance.  You must call the Delta Meeting Network at 1-800-241-6760 and refer to File Number 169762A.  Identify yourself as an ASP member.
Car Rental:  Avis is the “Official Rent – A – Car” company for our meeting.  Avis will provide ASP members with discount rates for car rentals at Savannah International Airport and Jacksonville Airport.  Call the Avis Meeting Reservation and Information Desk at 1-800-331-1600.  The Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number for the ASP group is D131098.
