2005 Application for the ASP Conservation Small Grant

Deadline: 16 January 2005

Grant proposals are solicited for conservation research or related projects including conservation education. ASP and IPS members working in habitat countries are especially urged to apply or to help someone from a habitat country to submit a proposal. Award amounts range from $500 to $1,500.

Proposal instructions:

All proposals, whether submitted online, by email, or by mail should be formatted using the grant application form and should include all the sections outlined below. If you are using an older version of Word and cannot open the application file, you can try downloading one saved specifically for older versions of Word conservationgrantapplication2005_olderversions.doc.

Additional sections may be included where relevant but the total narrative should not exceed 4 pages. Recipients of grants must agree to submit a brief report (maximum 1-2 pages - single spaced), in a form suitable for publication in the ASP Bulletin, to the Chair of the ASP Conservation Committee within 6 months of completion of the project.

Online grant submission: You don't have to be a member of ASP in order to submit a proposal, but you do need a username and password to get to the Members Only section where you will upload your application file. If you already have one, please login and submit your grant proposal. If not, you may create a new login.

Please note the following important guidelines:

1. Award decisions will be made during late March 2005, with funds being available in late April or early May 2005. Please take this into consideration when planning your project’s start date.
2. If submitting your application as an email, please include all materials in ONE file – using the grant application form provided.
3. If submitting your application as a mailed hard copy, please do not bind the pages.
4. Please comply with the page limits (described below) and do not include attachments.
5. Please specify only one Principal Investigator as the recipient responsible for the funds.
6. If you have any questions regarding your proposal’s suitability for funding, please contact the Conservation Chair prior to submitting your application (janettewallis@sbcglobal.net).

3. PROJECT BUDGET and JUSTIFICATION: (maximum 1 page)
   1. Budget (provide an outline of project expenses, e.g., travel/transportation, room, meals, field assistants, equipment, supplies, miscellaneous expenses, etc.)

   2. Justification ((provide a brief statement justifying the proposed budget items)
      1. If the project budget exceeds the amount requested from ASP:
         • indicate the item(s) to be funded by the ASP Conservation Small Grant
         • indicate how the remaining expenses will be covered (i.e., other sources of funding)

4. CURRICULUM VITAE: (maximum 2 pages) Include information such as educational background, current position, relevant experience, presentations and publications, names and addresses of 2 references. (Note: you do NOT need to submit letters of recommendation; the Committee will request them, if needed.)
