Resolution Regarding Human Population Growth

The following resolution was drafted and submitted by the Past Presidents of ASP in attendance at the 14th annual meeting of ASP, Veracruz, Mexico (R. Dukelow, D. Lindburg, W. Mason, O. Smith). Passed by majority vote at the Business Meeting, 26 June 1991:

WHEREAS the continued existence of non-human primates is essential to the purposes of this Society; and

WHEREAS the major threat to the continued existence of non-human primates is the increasing human population; be it

RESOLVED, that the American Society of Primatologists publicly announce its support for all ethical efforts to control human population growth world wide; and

FURTHER, that the international scientific community exert unified efforts to encourage, by all ethical means, the control of human population growth.
