This year the Caribbean Primate Research Center is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the Cayo Santiago free-ranging colony of rhesus macaques. In honor of this historic event, a select group of speakers has been invited to present a special symposium to highlight the history of Cayo, important work on demographics, population genetics and management, and ongoing long-term behavioral studies. We hope to attract, promote and encourage a new generation of students of nonhuman primates to biomedical and behavioral science careers through their research at Cayo Santiago. We will set the historical stage for today’s studies based on the preceding 75 years of work and look towards future science at Cayo.
