The abilities to recognize and select the appropriate behavioral response toward potential threats in the environment are critical skills for survival in primates. Research has begun to implicate numerous factors in the development of appropriate emotional behavior responses. The purpose of this symposium is to elucidate some of the factors that influence emotional behavior expression in primates. Specifically, speakers will present data on environmental, genetic, and neurobiological factors that influence emotional reactivity in primates. Talks will examine emotional behavior of both Old and New World monkeys.
